Expertise and Education
The dementia care program at The Edgewood Centre is designed to enhance the quality of life of residents living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. Our goal is always to maximize independence, ensure dignity, and provide steady support for families. With over 40 years of experience, we are prepared to support the changing physical, emotional and spiritual needs of people dealing with any stage of Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Edgewood staff in all departments are carefully selected and offered specialized training in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. This program, exclusive to Edgewood, was developed in conjunction with experts from the Copper Ridge Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and covers everything from dining and nutrition to encouraging independence.
Edgewood medical director Dr. Sarah MacDuffie’s team of practitioners are on site five days each week and specialized medical and dental professionals visit on a regular basis. Our staff work consistently in our dementia care community with the same residents every day, ensuring familiar faces are there to help with empathy and understanding. At Edgewood, it is our privilege to nurture and celebrate our residents during each moment of their lives.
Focus on Mind, Body, and Spirit
Our activity professionals specialize in fostering the self-expression, camaraderie and creativity that are part of a meaningful and joy-filled life. Programming is fully individualized and varies with the cognitive ability and social preferences of each resident in our dementia care program. Some residents look forward to scenic rides along the seacoast while others enjoy live musical entertainment or pet therapy programs.
A Waterfront Home In a Great Neighborhood
Adaptations inside Edgewood and on the grounds encourage freedom of mobility and maximize the opportunity to enjoy fresh air and sunshine. Residents can dine on waterfront porches and patios, stroll in a handicapped accessible courtyard, and enjoy activities in an atrium overlooking a pristine wildlife pond. Children from our on-site early learning center visit often - bringing healthy doses of smiles and laughter to those who call Edgewood home.
