End of Life Care
State of the Art Staffing
For individuals and families dealing with a life-limiting illness, it's reassuring to be in the hands of experts.
Edgewood's Medical Director, Dr. Sarah MacDuffie, is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine and is the Palliative Care Director at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Working alongside Dr. MacDuffie is an interdisciplinary care team made up of nursing, medical, rehab, activities, and social service professionals who provide residents and families with the support they need during difficult times.
Music, reading material, journals, family support, spiritual services, and bereavement counseling are all available. In addition, Edgewood’s wellness professionals are on hand to provide Reiki and other treatments for relaxation and pain management.
Our palliative team works closely with local hospice agencies to ensure that residents are comfortable, closely monitored, and that pain and discomfort are treated immediately using pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.
Situated on the scenic New Hampshire seacoast and surrounded by fifteen acres of pine trees, gardens, and water; The Edgewood Centre is a tranquil world unto itself. Courtyards and patios make great places for family picnics, al fresco lunches or viewing fall foliage.
Edgewood’s palliative program is best captured in images: it’s a trusted rehab therapist dropping by to give a shoulder massage just because she knows it will help, it’s children from Edgewood’s on-site early learning center parading down the hall dressed as bunnies for Easter, it’s family gathered in a resident’s room reminiscing about old times and capturing them on film or in a journal, and it’s an Edgewood chef preparing a resident’s favorite meal and serving it to the entire family.
Our mission is to make a difference each and every day for the residents and the families we are privileged to know.
