Edgewood Staff Member Saves a Life
It was 6:45 in the morning at Planet Fitness when Edgewood Director of Nursing Miriam Pelletier heard cries for help and witnessed a man down on the floor, not moving. Miriam sprang off the elliptical machine and into action, starting CPR on the man with assistance from a PF staff person. John Foster, a 65 year old man from Rye, had gone into cardiac arrest. He was not breathing and had no pulse. Using the AED (automated external defribrillator,) Miriam and her assistant were able to get a pulse back until paramedics arrived and took over. The man was rushed to the hospital and underwent heart surgery. Miriam called him that day and visited after his surgery. He is currently doing fine and reports being grateful to have the chance to celebrate with his family over the holidays. He says he imagines this holiday, more than any other, will be a special one.
