Employment
At the Edgewood Centre, we’ve been meeting and exceeding the needs of residents and families for over 30 years. Our staff people are the heart and soul of what we do and the reason for our excellent reputation.
There are dozens of great reasons to join our team as an Edgewood staff person…here are the top 10.
1. Join the Family
Our facility is family owned and family run, the kind of place where everybody knows your name. Patty Ramsey, Edgewood’s owner, is on-site and involved; whether by providing care, serving food at a function, or asking an employee’s opinion on renovation plans.
The difference between working in a family facility and a corporate one will be apparent the minute you enter our front doors…the difference is personal. At Edgewood, people know who you are, see first hand the good work you do, and value you for your contribution. With the support of strong team members and the encouragement of hands-on leaders, the rewards of working at the Edgewood Centre are tremendous.
2. Sign on with an Award Winner
Each year Business New Hampshire Magazine and New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility choose the best companies to work for in the state.
This year Edgewood was chosen as one of the top 10 large companies to work for in New Hampshire based on a commitment to keeping employees happy. The judges’ impression was this, “As a Portsmouth nursing and rehabilitative care center, (Edgewood) knows how to make employees feel appreciated and valued.”
3. Access On-Site Child Care
When you have children, finding affordable care you can feel great about can be a challenge.
Recognizing this need, The Edgewood Centre became one of the first businesses in New Hampshire to offer on-site child care. Even now, over 25 years later, Edgewood remains the only nursing home in the state to offer this service for employees.
From 7:00 am until 5:30 pm, Edgewood Early Learning is open and staffed with a team of teachers who lovingly care for children 6 weeks to 6 years old.
For Edgewood employees, the care is affordable and is priced well below other day care and preschool centers in the area. Costs, on average, run almost 40% less than other facilities. In addition, the program features school-based learning opportunities, intergenerational activities, field trips, and lots of healthy playtime – both indoors and out.
4. Stick with the Team
Highly trained and dedicated professionals are the cornerstones of a great health care facility. The knowledge, hard work and warmth of our staff support the well being of each resident and each family we are fortunate enough to know.
Edgewood is made up of three communities, each with a team of dynamic professionals who work consistently with the same residents and co-workers. This approach is unusual in the health care industry but because it is relationship based, it fits our philosophy perfectly.
5. Enroll at Edgewood University
Employee education and training programs abound at Edgewood, including a highly regarded national leadership and communication program. In addition, generous financial support allows employees to focus on their professional goals and seek opportunities to develop their skills and their careers.
Promotions from within occur frequently and we offer numerous opportunities for advancement. Fully 42% of our department heads spent part of their career at Edgewood as an LNA.
6. Be on the Cutting Edge of Culture Change
As a leader in the culture change movement, Edgewood is committed to providing resident centered and resident driven care.
We work hard to ensure the dignity of our residents and create enriching experiences that promote independence and personal choice. Our staff people are passionate about the things that matter – home, empowerment, appreciation, relationship and teamwork.
7. Get the Spa Treatment
At the Edgewood Centre, we believe that our staff people are better able to care for others if they also take care of themselves…and we know they deserve it. Our comprehensive wellness program is a testament to this belief.
We offer complimentary soup, sandwiches and fruit in our café each day. In addition massage, Reiki and paraffin treatments are offered not only to our residents, but also to our staff at wellness clinics held right at our skilled facility.
Envision yourself coming to work, dropping your child off in our early learning center to have breakfast with her friends, working with a team to make a difference in the lives of the residents, and having a shoulder massage on your break. Sound great? There’s more.
8. Stay Awhile…and Grow
At The Edgewood Centre, we provide skilled nursing, short stay rehab, dementia care and hospice services; the opportunities to learn are abundant.
We know that staff people want to be challenged and that using their skills and expanding their expertise is important on the job. Whether you want to specialize in cardiac rehab, IV therapy or Alzheimer’s and dementia care; we’ve got an opportunity for you to give and to grow.
At our southern New Hampshire skilled nursing facility, staff people have the opportunity to build their resume and gain valuable experience in a variety of disciplines.

Perhaps because they feel challenged and supported, Edgewood employees tend to stay awhile. 50% of our employees have been working in our skilled nursing facility for over 5 years.
9. Work in the Neighborhood
The Edgewood Centre is located in a residential neighborhood in the seaside town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Within walking distance are waterfront eateries, Portsmouth’s Market Square area, and the flowers of Prescott Park.
Edgewood’s skilled nursing facility is an easy commute from Dover, Rochester, and points north and is just across the bridge from Kittery and the rest of Southern Maine.
10. Focus on What Really Matters
If working in our family-run facility sounds like just what you’ve been looking for, ask yourself this, “Are you willing to give exceptional service to our residents, their families and your co-workers?”
If the answer is yes, you are invited to complete an employment application or contact us by phone (603) 766-2340 or email. We are excited to meet you.
