Assisted Living
As part of the family-owned Edgewood Center campus, the Inn at Edgewood is situated on 15 beautiful acres in the historic seaside town of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We provide supervision for people who need some assistance with activities of daily living but do not require continual nursing or medical care. We also offer respite care on a space available basis to cover the short-term absence of a primary caregiver or someone thinking of moving in and wanting to fully experience the lifestyle before making a decision.
When assisted living is needed
Assisted living communities offer an environment for elders that provides help with medication management, meal preparation, laundry and housekeeping services and activities but less supervision and direct care than they might need from a nursing home.
Those who enter assisted living facilities can often do many activities on their own but prefer the comfort and security of knowing someone is there at a moment’s notice if needed. Medical monitoring and the structure which provides social engagement can provide great support while living independently.
An assisted living community can offer the peace of mind that your loved one is in good hands and is enjoying a quality of life filled with daily social interactions with peers and staff that is not available if living alone.
Here are a few reasons it may be time to consider assisted living if the following has become challenging:
- Home Management: meal preparation, housekeeping and laundry
- Safety: leaving doors unlocked, leaving the stove on unattended
- Managing Medications: forgetting to take or inappropriately taking meds
- Social Isolation: loneliness, fear of being alone, paranoia
- Caregiver Burnout: lack of availability of caregivers
- Failure to Thrive: depression, limited social interaction
