Hospice Care

As part of our skilled nursing care program, The Edgewood Centre offers hospice nursing care for individuals and families dealing with a life limiting illness.

The Hospice Team

The facility contracts with all area hospice providers who work with Edgewood’s interdisciplinary palliative care team to provide residents and families with the support they need during difficult times. CD players, reading material, music, journals, family support, spiritual services, and bereavement counseling are all available.

In addition, Edgewood’s wellness team is on hand to provide reiki and massage for relaxation and pain management. The team works closely with local hospice agencies to ensure that residents are comfortable and closely monitored. The team ensures, for instance, that pain and discomfort are treated immediately.

Award Winning Skilled Nursing Care

One of Edgewood’s hospice care nurses, Maureen Clancy, was honored with the Trucia Goodwillie Award for Excellence in End of Life Care for her exemplary hospice work in the field of long-term care. Maureen is just one example of the many fine nursing professionals who staff The Edgewood Centre. These men and women combine technical skill and nursing expertise with the warmth and compassion that is essential in hospice nursing care.

Surrounded by fifteen acres of pine trees, gardens, and water, The Edgewood Centre is a tranquil world unto itself. It is the type of place where people know your name and genuinely care how you feel and who you are-whether you are a resident or a family member.

A Hospice Care Snapshot

Edgewood’s hospice program is best captured in images: It’s a trusted rehab therapist dropping by to give a shoulder massage just because she knows it will help you feel better, it’s children from Edgewood’s on-site child care program parading down the hall dressed as bunnies for Easter, it’s family gathered in a resident’s room reminiscing about old times and capturing them on film or in a journal, and it’s a nurse holding your hand and letting you know, “We’ll be right here.”
