US DHHS gives the Edgewood Center 5 Stars
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is the branch of the US Department of Health and Human Services that administers Medicare and Medicaid programs and provides ratings and comparison information to consumers on hospitals, physicians, and nursing homes. CMS determines nursing home ratings from the following three sources of data:
- Health Inspections
- Staffing
- Quality Measures
Star ratings for each of these three sources are combined to calculate an overall rating for the nursing home of 1 star (much below average) to 5 stars (much above average.)
Why is this important?
Nursing homes can vary in the quality of care and service they provide to their residents. Reviewing health inspection results, staffing data, and quality measure data are three important ways to measure nursing home quality. This information gives a potential resident or family member a “snapshot” of the care individual nursing homes give.
Edgewood is one of only two facilities within 15 miles of Portsmouth to receive a 5-star rating from CMS. The other, Exeter Healthcare, is slated to close this year.
Most of Edgewood’s customers come because they hear great things from friends and neighbors but some come because they want to feel confident that the place they choose for skilled rehab or nursing care or dementia services or respite has been thoroughly scrutinized and determined to be the best.
